The state Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting on a $13 million project to replace two 110-year-old bridges in Cayuga County.
The meeting is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Sterling Town Hall, 1290 Route 104A. DOT representatives will attend the meeting and preliminary project plans will be available for review.
According to the DOT, the proposed project would replace two single-span arch bridges. One was built in 1910 and carries Route 104A over Sterling Creek. The other was constructed in 1914 and carries Route 104A over Sterling Valley Creek.

State bridge data shows that both have poor ratings. The bridges have reached the end of their useful lives, the DOT said.
The new bridges will have 11-foot travel lanes, expanded shoulders and improved pedestrian access. Replacing the bridges will create a "safer, more efficient crossing for all legal loads utilizing this vital connection along the Great Lakes Seaway Trail," the DOT said.
The project, which is in the preliminary design phase, is expected to begin in 2027. During construction, the DOT said a temporary detour will be in place.
