School board: 2006-2009, 2015-2019; Owasco Town Board: 2019-2023; Finger Lakes SPCA Board of Directors: 2016-2018; USAF: 1987-1993; Cayuga County Sheriff鈥檚 Office: 1995-2022
TOP THREE PRIORITIES:
1. Provide a safe environment for children to learn and staff to teach. Without a safe and secure campus we cannot fulfill the obligation to educate our children.
2. Safeguard the public money. The reserve funds and fund balance cannot be filled with the public鈥檚 hard-earned money and used as a savings account for the school district. We certainly need to be prepared for the future but we need to did it in a way that takes into account the difficult economic times that we are all in.
3. Ensure proper district leadership. It is the school board鈥檚 responsibility to provide thoughtful oversight to the district. This includes evaluating the performance of the superintendent and taking appropriate action if that performance fails to meet the district鈥檚 high standards.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD?
The current board of education is fragmented and seems to have developed two opposing camps. This is detrimental to the operation of the school district. I have experience on the school board and professional experience that makes me uniquely qualified to try and bring the board together and find consensus for the betterment of the district and our children. I have a total of seven grandchildren who are either currently or will soon receive their education in the Auburn Enlarged City School District. I have a vested interest in seeing the district run smoothly, efficiently, transparently, and with fiscal responsibility.

PLACE OF RESIDENCE: Auburn
EDUCATION: (Did not respond.)
ELECTED OFFICE AND COMMUNITY SERVICE EXPERIENCE: I am involved with coaching my children's sports teams, baseball and soccer.
TOP THREE PRIORITIES:
1. The district needs to start working together to improve test scores and improve the attendance issue that currently exists. We need to make sure that when children are in school that they are learning and given the support to want to come back. The district needs to make it a priority to give them the tools they need to graduate.听
2. We need to support our teachers. The district needs to make sure the staff has the support they need to effectively teach the children.听
3. The district needs to be able to effectively communicate with the taxpayers on where their money is being spent. With the tax (levy) increase of 3.25% the public should be made aware of what steps the administration took to ensure that their money is being spent responsibly.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD?
I decided to run for the Auburn Enlarged Central School District Board of Education to make a change in the way (the) district has been ran. I think we need to give better support to our teachers and staff so they can have the resources they need to teach our children and ensure their success while going to school within the district. We need to be very transparent with the taxpayers and show them that the money they are paying each year allows them to see a positive return. All in all, the district needs to do a better job working as a team and not against one another.

PLACE OF RESIDENCE: Auburn
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree, Binghamton University
ELECTED OFFICE AND COMMUNITY SERVICE EXPERIENCE: I've been on the school board the past three years. I am also the district's representative on the Auburn Industrial Development Authority. I've previously served on boards and committees for the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Cayuga County, Cayuga Community College, Cayuga County Arts Council and more.
TOP THREE PRIORITIES:
1. Chronic absenteeism: The No. 1 issue affecting student achievement, test scores, graduation rates and behaviors. It's a nationwide problem that we must continue to address.
2. Facilities: Our schools are in dire need. From mechanicals to instructional space, we need to prioritize our needs and upgrade our facilities to make them safer and more conducive to learning.
3. Budget: We need to be cautious in spending down the fund balance and weigh that against our tax increases to make sure we don't have a fiscal crisis in the next three to five years.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD?
I believe in this district. Schools are our most important investment in the future of our community. We've made some positive changes in the past three years, and I'd like to continue to give back to my community through that work.听

TOP THREE PRIORITIES:
1. The No. 1 priority for our school district is to continue to ensure the best possible education for all students in our community. To create as many academic paths, training in the trades' opportunities, and extracurricular experiences as possible.听
2. Additionally, I believe fair funding levels from the state and federal government are critical. Historically, Auburn has been underfunded as compared to the other districts in our county. As I am encouraged by this year's foundation level increases, I would advocate with all elected officials to continue to address this challenge.听
3. I believe the school board's role is key to developing policies that attract the best administrative personnel, teachers, and professional support staff to our district. Every organization has a culture that either attracts or repels the best people. District leadership should operate with a levelheaded and pragmatic approach working as a team to solve big issues, often needing to make tough decisions. District leadership should approach every issue with an open mind, actively listening to input from all stakeholders, and working together to find the best solution for all. An approach otherwise does not keep the best people in our district and ultimately hurts our kids.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD?
It is a mix of life and professional experience that gives me the desire to serve as a board member in the Auburn Enlarged City School District. As a听fifth-grade teacher for 17 years in the Moravia Central School District, I have seen firsthand the impact a positive school community can have on the lives of our children. I believe our school system plays a vital role in creating lifelong opportunities for our youth. Our schools are the community鈥檚 biggest financial and human investment we all make together. I would like to be part of the team that moves education forward in Auburn.

2. Continued support for both staff and students to meet the increasing need for managing our students' social/emotional requirements remains critical to our daily operations.
3. Additionally, efforts to address chronic absenteeism remains a focus.

2. Our next priority should be to continue to work on providing a safe academic environment for all students.听We need to remain focused on academic achievement while providing more opportunities for project-based and hands-on learning. The more our students can relate what they have learned to real-life opportunities, the more effective our education will be. We need to have more internships and job shadowing听opportunities听to expose students to more careers.
3. Finally, it should be a priority to remain fiscally responsible for our taxpayers and for our students.听Doing this means keeping our school in a strong financial position so we can keep our school moving forward.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD?
I decided to run for school board this year because I believe it is important to serve the community. I have actively contributed to the board the past six years as a member of the Policy Committee, the Audit Committee and the Student Improvement Committee at the Cato-Meridian Junior-Senior High School. Some of you may know that I actually love to research policy. I have lived in Cato-Meridian for 24 years and had children in our school for 21 of those years. No matter where I become involved, one important thing always rises to the surface for me 鈥 that is how can we educate our kids to become the best that they can be, because when we do this our communities and local businesses can grow. I am proud to have employed over 30 students from Cato-Meridian in the last 24 years. I believe in more opportunities to connect students with real careers and job-based skills. We live in a strong community and we can provide a great education to our students in our small town. I look forward to continuing to serve as we move forward as a district in the next year.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD?
Except for significant breaks for college, graduate school, work, and travel, I have been a lifelong resident of the Southern Cayuga Central School District. I graduated in 1990. When we chose to settle in the district and raise our family, it was to be close to friends and family, and because we appreciate the rural landscape and the Finger Lakes. We felt the school district provided a safe, close-knit community, with a commitment to quality education, and ample opportunities for participation in sports and the arts. We still feel this way. In the next years, as the district chooses a new superintendent, and plots a course for the future, it鈥檚 vital that we reaffirm our support for the district we know and love. These are challenging times, but I think we can all find common ground in working to provide a rich, challenging, supportive education for all of our students.

ELECTED OFFICE AND COMMUNITY SERVICE EXPERIENCE:听
1. Aurora Free Library Board of Trustees: secretary (March 2024-March 2025), treasurer (March 2025-present). 2. Girl Scout troop leader (in Scipio; Jacksonville, North Carolina; and Quantico, Virginia. 3. Cub Scout leader (in Lansing; Quantico, Virginia; and Twentynine Palms, California).
TOP THREE PRIORITIES:
1. The top priority for the Southern Cayuga Central School District should include ensuring the physical and mental well-being for all students. Students should always feel safe at school, and that includes everything from keeping the campus secure, to recognizing and eliminating bullying. A positive learning environment will be achieved by focusing on mental health, and more specifically, teaching coping skills and conflict navigation. This school should function as a community, where everyone is important and everyone has a role to play.
2. Helping students to reach their full potential is of the utmost importance. By offering a rigorous curriculum, and providing a personalized learning experience, we can empower students to set their own goals for graduation and beyond. A broad-based education should include classes in art, music, and foreign language, to name just a few. When many offerings are presented to students, both in and outside of the classroom, they are able to identify their interests and passions 鈥 an important step to becoming productive, responsible citizens.
3. Finally, SCCS should concentrate on sustainability by exercising fiscal responsibility. Long-term financial stability is key, and being transparent and communicating clearly with the community will build trust and support. Southern Cayuga needs to ensure that the resources necessary to meet our educational programs and initiatives are available for years to come.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD?
A little over three years ago, my husband, Matthew, and I began the search for our 鈥渇orever home." Matt鈥檚 22-year career in the United States Marine Corps was coming to a close, and because we have three school-aged kids, an excellent school district was the top priority in choosing where to live. In moving to King Ferry, we were welcomed into this community by so many, and I feel the need to give back. Since moving here, I鈥檝e been a Girl Scout leader, a Cub Scout leader, and a member of the Aurora Free Library Board of Trustees, as well as a volunteer for several different area organizations and events. I鈥檝e got a background in education, having taught chemistry at the University of South Carolina for about a decade. Because we moved so often as a military family, our kids attended nine separate schools before SCCS, giving me the unique experience and insight into how different districts operate. I feel that I鈥檓 extremely organized, a good communicator, and I often think outside the box. Additionally, I have the time, the energy, the drive and the passion that is required of an engaged board of education member.

I am on the board of the Evergreen Cemetery in Scipioville, and a volunteer and member of the board for the King Ferry Food Pantry.
TOP THREE PRIORITIES:
1. A top priority is developing and implementing a strategic search for our new superintendent that will result in the hiring of a leader with the vision and skill to guide us to heightened success. This will include navigating current and future challenges such as changes in student enrollment, recruitment and retention of qualified teachers and staff, potential decreases to state and federal funding, the regionalization initiative, and AI, among others.
2. Excellent implementation of a well-designed curriculum that is engaging and pertinent is a priority critical for student success. Students are motivated to learn when curriculum sparks their interest and is relevant to their lives.
3. Improved two-way communication and collaboration will help the district achieve its goals, including others not mentioned above like increasing literacy, decreasing absenteeism, ensuring every student has a sense of belonging, and improving engagement with families and the community.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD?
I always planned that my retirement years would include volunteer activities to 鈥済ive back鈥 and support a community that I love. During the pandemic I helped with my grandchildren鈥檚 remote schooling and became interested in the district goals and policies. I was a regular attendee at BOE meetings, eventually running for a board seat.
As my first term nears completion, key skills developed during my career continue to be valuable assets. These include active listening, communication, teamwork, fiscal responsibility, use of data to drive decisions, accountability, and developing solutions. I would like the opportunity to continue to work collaboratively with fellow BOE members, administration, and the community to ensure our students develop a love of learning and reach their full potential.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD?
I wanted to run for the school board to help make sure there are a variety of options, including academic (both college and trade routes), extracurricular, and hands-on training for our students. I also want to be a part of helping set the budget, which hopefully makes both our school and community thrive.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD?
I am running for a second term on the Southern Cayuga Central School District Board of Education because I am committed to helping our district continuously improve. I look forward to beginning the search for a new superintendent as a board member. This is an opportunity to impact the future direction of our district.听I plan to again advocate for the needs of students in Southern Cayuga. I will also be a voice for our community if reelected to the board.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD?
I have been a district resident since 2002 and I鈥檓 proud to live in this community. I am now completing my first term on the school board and have thoroughly enjoyed the last three years. I chose to run for reelection because many of today鈥檚 children are struggling with mental health issues and social interactions. If reelected, I will continue advocating for improvement in our educational offerings and mental health advocacy. In addition, I also enjoy having a voice and understanding where our tax dollars are being allocated and spent. Thoughtful consideration is needed on all decisions as our annual budget is very tight. There are fiscal constraints that must be considered for every new decision and Union Springs continues to provide a top-notch level of offerings to our students. I feel the Union Springs Central School District leadership and current board of education work well together for one common goal and that鈥檚 the improvement of our school community.

TOP THREE PRIORITIES:
1. What I feel should be the priorities of our district remain essentially unchanged. First, I feel, should be to continue to work to offer the highest quality education to our students. I am proud of the collective work we have done to improve student achievement and create opportunities for every student to define a path to their future. This year saw the addition of an agricultural program and Future Farmers of America chapter to complement the many other programs we offer students.
2. My second priority would be to help continue the work of the district regarding maintaining our facilities. With the overwhelming support of our community for our capital projects, the district has completed multiple projects to improve and renovate our campus. We continue to evaluate our facilities and plan for safety, infrastructure and building improvements to help keep our students safe and provide them with an environment conducive to learning.
3. Lastly, and this is of no lesser importance, I feel the district needs to continue its efforts to manage the budget. We, like many districts, are facing extremely challenging financial times. Rising costs, many of which are beyond the district鈥檚 control, stress our resources. Continuing to work to find efficiencies while maintaining the quality of our students鈥 education is of the highest priority.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD?
I initially chose to run for the school board 30 years ago, as I had a young child and was expecting a second and I wanted to be an integral part of the school my children would be educated in. I now firmly believe that the school is the focal point of any community. A good school builds a great community.听I don't feel like I am done and I humbly request another opportunity to help the school for five more years.
